Classroom CEU Preparation for Exam Series [Prep-for-Exam]:

This series of classes, including WAC/RCW for Trainees, Electrical Math Workshop, and all five Intro to NEC courses listed below, is certified for individual 8-hour sessions. Students will learn exam-taking techniques, guidelines for taking the Washington State Electrician Exams, including what to take into the exam.  Specifics relating to their individual exams (# of questions and source locations) are discussed.  Each course finishes with a short test.  These courses are fast-paced, include several hours of instruction and discussion.

Classroom CEU Focus Series [FOCUS]:

Designed for students to learn about the electrical craft, these courses are certified for 8-hour sessions and count for Trainee CEU credit toward renewal.  Intended to provide an alternative series of classes that are less focused on prep-for-exam and more focused on understanding the concepts in the NEC, WAC, and Electrical theory.  These courses provide additional information not found in the Prep-for-Exam series. Each course finishes with a short exam.

Certified for 8 Hours in the Code Category, applicable to Trainee Level Technicians.  This course covers the major changes from the revisions as the National Electrical Code migrates from the 2020 edition to the 2023 edition.  Over 150 changes are highlighted in the presentation covering Article 90 through Article 830.  Students need to bring their own copy of the 2023 NEC to class, available at NFPA.org, online booksellers, large bookstores, and college textbook bookstores wherever engineering or electrical classes are presented.

[Prep-for-Exam] 2021 Electrical Math Workshop WA2021-592 $175

This is a math class.  Students will be working through the formulas and preparing for the State exam.  Certified for 8 Hours in the BCE category (trainee CEU), this course is also recommended for Journey/Specialty/Admin level certification holders.  The course covers resistors in series/parallel, Ohm’s Law, metric/US inch-pound conversion, BTU/Wattage formulas, atomic theory, magnetism, conductivity, voltage sources and generation, inductance, capacitance, impedance, and voltage drop.  Good for anyone looking for an introduction to the formulas, and for those that need a refresher.  This course uses Ferm’s Formulas, Calculations, and Information (r) as the text, which is included with the class, but also available for purchase at the classroom for $20.  Ferm’s may be used in the exam, and contains formulas that are useful in calculation questions on the Washington State Electrician Exams.

Boiler Courses 

 
In-Classroom Boiler Refresher Course $250
(Licensed Seattle and Tacoma/Bates Operators)
  • Boiler Operator Refresher Credit: 8 Hours
  • Current Boiler Operator License Holders 5-Year Renewal

Approved by Seattle and Bates/Tacoma as the required Boiler Refresher, due once every 5 years for all licensed Boiler Operators that carry City of Seattle Boiler Licenses.  This course covers Safety, Operation, New Technology, Current Events, and Boiler Code.  See the calendar for dates. All materials are included.  Students receive a course completion certificate to be used as evidence of successful completion of the class for renewal purposes, and course attendance will be submitted to the City of Seattle (or Tacoma/Bates) on behalf of the student.  Students must attend the entire session and pass a short exam at the end to receive credit.

Both Seattle and Tacoma/Bates recognize that classes are limited. If you have questions, please contact your license agency to discuss the rules directly with that agency.  Verify Training can not determine your circumstances and how the departments will react to late or missed Boiler Refresher Classes.

In-Classroom Seattle Boiler Operator Grade 3/Grade 4 Prep for Exam $250

The Seattle Boiler Operator Grade 3/Grade 4 Prep for Exam class prepares students in a single 8-hour session for taking the challenging exam from the City of Seattle Department of Planning and Development.  The Seattle Boiler Operator License is a requirement for those operating hot water boilers and steam boilers within the City (per requirements of the Seattle Boiler Code.)  This class prepares those operators for the written exam.  Includes a copy of the Low-Pressure Boiler Study Guide with the course fee. This course does not provide observation time of boiler operation and does not meet the requirements of the Education Substitution.

This course is approved by the City of Seattle, Department of Construction and Inspections to prepare students for a career as a Boiler Operator in the City of Seattle Steam Licensing and Boiler Operator Program.  Utilizing the Steam Engineer and Boiler Operator License Law, 2021 edition, paragraph 6.420.080B: Education Substitution, 40-hours of lab work and 40-hours of classroom instruction, to provide the training necessary to qualify the students for the Grade 4 Boiler Operator Exam. No additional lab time or on-site supervised boiler instruction will be necessary for the student to qualify for the Seattle Grade 4 Boiler Operator Exam after successful completion of this course.

Taught by experienced boiler operators.  This class will use non-live components, a field trip to an active boiler plant, lecture, textbooks and weekly quizzes to prepare the student to take on the responsibility of operating a boiler plant.  Textbooks are included with the cost of the course.

Refrigeration Courses

 
In-Classroom Seattle Refrigeration Operator Prep for Exam $250
  • Prepares unlicensed operators to take the exam
  • Good for Refrigeration Operators or Refrigeration Mechanics

The Seattle Refrigeration Operator Prep for Exam class prepares students in a single 8-hour session for taking the challenging exam from the City of Seattle Department of Planning and Development.  The Seattle Refrigeration Operator License is a requirement for those operating refrigeration/air-conditioning equipment within the City limits, where the equipment is larger than 50lbs of refrigerant charge.  This includes refrigeration technicians, maintenance mechanics, and building engineers with responsibility for equipment at their owned or operated properties.

Refrigeration workers and handlers need to be certified by the EPA to comply with the Federal Clean Air Act of 1990.  This can be accomplished by passing an examination covering refrigerant theory, refrigeration machine operation, recovery procedures, transportation procedures, reclaim and recycling of refrigerants, evacuation and repair procedures, and other technical information about the laws/rules/processes of working with refrigerant.  This course is designed to prepare the students in a single 8-hour course to take the EPA exam, which will be given at the end of the course by an approved test proctor.  Exams are mailed to the certification agent, and results are available within 7 days to the student.
