Washington State Requirements for Trainees:

• Trainee Credit: 8 Hours
• Students must bring a Printed Copy of NEC 2020
• Satisfies NEC Code Update Category

Certified for 8 Hours in the Code Category, applicable to Trainee Level Technicians.  This course covers the major changes from the revisions as the National Electrical Code migrates from the 2017 edition to the 2020 edition.  Over 100 changes are highlighted in the presentation covering Article 90 through Article 830.  Students need to bring their own copy of the 2020 NEC to class, available at NFPA.org, online booksellers, large bookstores, and college textbook bookstores wherever engineering or electrical classes are presented.

Certified for 8 Hours in the BCE category (trainee CEU), this course introduces the trainee to the WAC/RCW, Oct 2020 edition.  The course covers the installation rules, inspection requirements, permitting, administration rules–including certification/licensing, exams, administrator requirements and duties, supervision for specialty/trainee requirements, company rules/requirements, continuing education, Washington State Electrical Department rule development, policies, enforcement, and much more. Each electrician, including specialties, takes a timed, one-hour exam on WAC/RCW.  Printed copies of the WAC/RCW 2020 are included with the class, or you may print out a copy from LNI’s website–click HERE to go to that page.

Certified for 8 Hours in the BCE category (trainee CEU), this course is also certified and recommended for Journey/Specialty/Admin level certification holders.  This course was designed with the beginner in mind.  Covering electricity generation, magnetism, AC/DC, Voltage/Current/Resistance/Watts, Capacitance, Inductance, Transformers, Power Factor, and more.  A great class for those that have been out of the science classroom for more than a couple of years.  This class discusses the concepts found in the Electrical Math Workshop (Math Class) and is recommended as the first of the two.

Certified for 8 Hours in BCE category (trainee CEU), this course begins the process of familiarizing the student with the National Electrical Code.  The 2020 NEC version becomes effective in July 2020.  This course covers the articles 90 through 230.  Instruction and discussion for 6 hours, slides that help with the discussion, and a 30 question exam at the end. For students learning the Code for the first time, for those preparing for the exam, and for those that are continuing their progress toward certification.  This course is best taken before Introduction to 2020 NEC Parts B, C, D or E.

For students learning the Code for the first time, for those preparing for the exam, and for those that are continuing their progress toward certification. This course is best taken after Introduction to 2020 NEC Part A, and before Introduction to 2020 NEC Parts C, D, and E.

Certified for 8 Hours in the WAC category, this course dives deep into the certification and licensing rules.  Start here for those unfamiliar with the program, state rules, and how to become a certified Washington State electrician or specialty electrician, how to start a licensed electrical contracting business (and when you have to.) Great for those seeking to become a company’s Electrical Admin.  Starting with a brief history of the  Washington State Electrical Department rule development, policies, enforcement and describing how each electrician, including specialties, plays a part in the overall program.  How to log hours of experience, the difference between CEU credit hours and experience hours, how to tell if a CEU class is active and approved for credit, and which ones YOU need.  Printed copies of the WAC 2020 are included with the class, or you may print out a copy from LNI’s website–click HERE to go to that page.

(Licensed Seattle and Tacoma/Bates Operators)

• Boiler Operator Refresher Credit: 8 Hours
• Current Boiler Operator License Holders 5-Year Renewal

Approved by Seattle and Bates/Tacoma as the required Boiler Refresher, due once every 5 years for all licensed Boiler Operators that carry City of Seattle Boiler Licenses.  This course covers Safety, Operation, New Technology, Current Events, and Boiler Code.  See the calendar for dates. All materials are included.  Students receive a course completion certificate to be used as evidence of successful completion of the class for renewal purposes, and course attendance will be submitted to the City of Seattle (or Tacoma/Bates) on behalf of the student.  Students must attend the entire session and pass a short exam at the end to receive credit.

Both Seattle and Tacoma/Bates recognize that classes are limited. If you have questions, please contact your license agency to discuss the rules directly with that agency.  Verify Training can not determine your circumstances and how the departments will react to late or missed Boiler Refresher Classes.

This course is approved by the City of Seattle, Department of Construction and Inspections to prepare students for a career as a Boiler Operator in the City of Seattle Steam Licensing and Boiler Operator Program.  Utilizing the Steam Engineer and Boiler Operator License Law, 2021 edition, paragraph 6.420.080B: Education Substitution, 40-hours of lab work and 40-hours of classroom instruction, to provide the training necessary to qualify the students for the Grade 4 Boiler Operator Exam. No additional lab time or on-site supervised boiler instruction will be necessary for the student to qualify for the Seattle Grade 4 Boiler Operator Exam after successful completion of this course.

Taught by experienced boiler operators.  This class will use non-live components, a field trip to an active boiler plant, lecture, textbooks and weekly quizzes to prepare the student to take on the responsibility of operating a boiler plant.  Textbooks are included with the cost of the course.

Refrigeration Courses

The Seattle Refrigeration Operator Prep for Exam class prepares students in a single 8-hour session for taking the challenging exam from the City of Seattle Department of Planning and Development.  The Seattle Refrigeration Operator License is a requirement for those operating refrigeration/air-conditioning equipment within the City limits, where the equipment is larger than 50lbs of refrigerant charge.  This includes refrigeration technicians, maintenance mechanics, and building engineers with responsibility for equipment at their owned or operated properties.
